The Generosity of Peter Nygard

Not craving for attention, Peter Nygard of Nygard International made a donation to a Bahamian sloop racing event that only became known after some encouragement by his good friend ‘King’ Eric Gibson. Eric is a legendary sailor and entertainer. Mr. Nygard has considered ‘King’ Eric a brother for 15 years, and holds in high regard to local peoples of the Bahamas. While Mr. Nygard may have been born abroad, his heart is Bahamian.

Thanks to his efforts and talent at Nygard International, Peter Nygard is a billionaire. He fell in love with the islands and their people long ago, and has been helping support them and encourage development since. Recently, his generosity has been even more remarkable. On April 20-24th, the 2011 National Family Island Regatta will be held with Mr. Nygard as a major sponsor. The event will be held in George Town, Exuma, and it’s important to those living in the area. The donations of Mr. Nygard are a true help to the people of the islands, and come at a time when funding has been on unstable ground due to the global economic trouble.

The average person envisions vacationing and endless wealth when they envision the Bahamas. Golden sand, sunlight, and shimmering waters. Most are quick to overlook the Bahamian people who live there. The residents have problems like anyone despite living in an apparent paradise. Luckily, they have philanthropists like Nygard International’s Peter Nygard to help support their local events.
